TOP AVEIGHTS 'REMAIN 1 IN

None of the fancied candidates for the AVellington Cupi failed to make the acceptance and of the 27 originally entered 20 were paid np for. The defections were Havering, LaTTy Pam, Spearful, Autopay, Cluny, Chocksay, and Gay Court. l't.isi pleasing to see the two topweights, Antique and Concentrate, hold their ground, and though it is no easy ta’sk to win a race of the class of the AVellington Cup : with over 91.0, both Antique and Concentrate are proved weight c-arrier s and starver.s. They showed by recent racing at the Auckland summer meeting that they are right at the top of their form, and each can he expected to put- up a- big effort at Trent Imm-next Thursday. At S.O Great Star must have an excellent! chance of capturing the- stake. He is a hardy customer who can go anyl distance, and twill always be in a good winning position. He looks like being tone of the hardest t'-o dispose of. Gold Trail, 7.13, will be suited by the big track. The three-year-old takes time to get properly settled down, hut once balanced and galloping properly Gold Trail is above the average. Jaloux, 7.11, and Red Sun, 7.6, are useful horses at a mile and a half. Jaloux seems to be an unlucky horse, and though he goes good race s he does not win often. Red Sun, on the other hand has been getting his share of races, and with ionly 7.6 on his hack he should he handy at the finish of the big race next Thursday. At the moment- the fancies should include Great Star, Antique, Gold Trail, and Red Sun.—Auckland Star.
