SUGGESTIONS TO A. AND P COMMITTEE

A budget- of suggestions for the A. and P. Association’s show to be held in October next- were dismissed at a eotimng of the committee on Saturday, when tbe president, .Mr H. GSmith, was in the chair, and there was a good attendance of members.

The president referred to the water supply on the grounds and it was decided to refer the matter of suggested improvements to a committee consisting of the president, tbe vicepresident, (Mr .J. C. Graham), and Messrs J. A. Eivers, A. C. Langford, F l . Tolerton, and E. ft. Black.

A proposal was made that the second and third prize money should be increased, especially in the jumping competitions, and a committee consisting of the president, the vicepresident. and Messrs E. M. Monekton, J. M. Monckton, W. W -Smith, P. Barker. W. Allan, and A. B. Russell arid f). J. Cummings was appointed for the purpose, ot revising the progra mine.

It, was decided that- it- be a recommendation to the committee when appointing judge s , to make inquiries as to the advisability oi securing a Romney judge fs-om the South Island. A proposal that- transport be arranged lor slock lor the show met unanimous approval. After discussion it was decided to give every assistance to call dubs it) country schools and Messrs -I. P Her. bort. D. J. Ccmming, and T. R. Bell were appointed a. committee to make recommendations for the incorporation -in this year's schedule of classes for calves reared bv school children.

Several proposals made in reierenee to new pig classes were referred to Mr E. A. Cameron to report to the committee.

Suggestions for additional classes in the pigeun esetiou were referred to the Poultry Club. Members of the committee also commented on the matter of covering for the poultry exhibits and it was -suggested that this section might- be placed in the plantation. where shade would be available. This matter, it- was decided, should be brought up again later in the year. In connection with the competitions the following proposals were adopted : That- competitions in which boy and girl riders compete, should be held at the entrance end of Oval, away from sideshows, and a steward mounted on a horse should be in attendance.

That- the brush jump be the last one on the home journey, away from the crowd and tents.

That lady riders he allowed to compete in maiden and open Jumps.

That in all judging competitions, except ladies’ jump and pony jump, a minimum weight of list, be carried. A suggestion to delete the dual jump competition was referred to the incoming committee.

It was decided to recommend to the new committee the provision of additional classes in the pony section for bo v and girl riders under eight, years of age. The matter of the appointment of judges was brought up, and it was unanimously decided that, it- would be in the interest of the association to make the appointments much earlier than in past- years. A proposal that juvenile Highland dancing should be included in the sche dule next year, made by Mr W. W. don as sen was very favorably received, and it was decided that- the secretary should write to Mir Jona'ssen with the idea of meeting members of the committee to discuss this innovation.

Suggestions in connection with the wood-chopping contests were referred to the ground committee, and a- proposal to hold a double-sawing event was adopted. A suggestion that lockers should be provided for stud cattle exhibitors was left in the hands, of the president and Air. W. TL Graham to make inquiries and report to a further meeting.
