Grave injuries to the head including a'fracture of the skull were received by James Arkhurst, aged 20, of Puke-,-kohe East, as the result of being ■knocked from his bicycle by a motor truck on the Great South Road at T-ft'knnini early this morning. ’Arkhurst, who is employed as an .operator at a picture theatre in the city was riding along the Great South Rond toward Papakura at about one o’clock, when be was overtaken by a (truck, driven by M, H. Alexander, of Clevedon. The truck collided with fthe cycle from the hack, and Arkhurst ‘was thrown heavily. • The injured man was brought to 'Auckland Hospital. His condition is serious. While on a fishing and shooting expedition at Northope (near Winton) on Saturday afternoon, William Walker, aged 17, of Invercargill was, it is presumed, accidentally fatally shot, although no member of the party of four actually saw the fatal shot fired.
