The Life of this Clerk was just threescore and ten Nearly half of which time he had sung out Amen In his Youth he was married like other young men But. his wife died one day so she ehaunted Amen: A second he took she departed whr-t then? Woodkams, can go one better—or, to he precise, two better—than the Stratford woman who surprised h e r friends recently by producing gooseberries four inches in circumference and going 26 to the pound. Mr. Woodhams brought into Paliiatua this week 21 outside specimens which, when weighed, tipped the scales at just over a pound. The majority measured 4-J inches in circumference. Mr. Woodhams states that he makes no special effort to secure these huge berries. His bushes, which were grown from cuttings, are now about five years old, and are simply laden -with tbe giant berries. There are automatic machines that dispense candy, newspapers, postage stamps, lemonade and matches. One even may drop a coin in a slot and pull out a group of photographs. But Germany now has automats for typing. Several German cities have placed these machines in their post offices. One places a coin in the slot and uses the typewriter for ten minutes. Another automat supplies a sheet of typewriting paper, carbon paper and an, envelope. •
