CAR. OUT OF CONTROL NEAR AUCKLAND
THREE PERSONS HURT
AUCKLAND, Jan. 9.
Three persons were injured early last evening when a large motor car driven, by Air William, Casey,’ a wellknown Auckland resident, got out- ot control on the Atbany-AVaiwera road, a mile or two north of Albany. The car crashed through a barbed wire fence and ran down a ravine about 200* l'eet deep.. Air and Mrs Casey received severe cuts from broken glass and a,brasiqns, and their daughter Valerie, aged .31 years, received cuts and a fracture of the collarbone. Another daughter who was in the- car was not hurt. Airs Casey- iva-s reported to feeing considerably from shoeljfjppf ' n a fairly serious condition. The accident occurred on .what is known as Foley’s Hill. Rapidly, gaining speed down the hill, .the.car ran off the road at the bend and down a bank into the ravine. It came .to rest on its -side. The- occupants were badly shaken and escaped from the vehicle with difficulty. Two doctors passed along the, road a minute or two after the accident "occurred and were able to give first aid The injured persons were conveyed to fhe ATarer Alisericordine Hospital. MOTOR CYCLE COLLIDES WTTH CAR YOUTH DEAD AND GIRL SERIOUSLY INJURED

A. fatal motor collision occurred at Ngaere at 10.30 o’clock last night, when a motor cycle ridden by Rex Riley, 20, of Tlawera. with Aliss Hazel Phillips, of Eltham, on th 0 pillion, crashed into a ear driven hv RO’Reilly, of Stratford. The motor cyclist suffered shocking injuries and died early this morning in the Stratford Hospital. Aliss Phillips wa R admitted to hospital in a serious condition. The occupant, of the. car were uninjured.

A- tragic death was met by Benjamin George Washer, Al, single, whose body was found lying on > CoiTeii ’s road crossing, Aliddlntop, at, o’clock this morning. There were torrihle wonficls aboil t the head and it is-'believed that, ifche man was struck; by a train. 1 -At an inquest this morning evid-l onco was given, that Washer lived at. a, boardinghouse in. the city. He was a returned soldier, suffering irom had health and occasional loss of. memory. It was said he had a tendency to wander about. Tfc had not been at the boardinghouse since 8.30 a.m. on Saturday. The inquest was adjourned.
