The Telegraph’s Paris correspondent says that the Budget deficit is increasing at the rate of £256 a minute. The Premier, M. Paul Boncour, admits ihat a stop must he put to the ruinous process. lie conferred with M. Chcron. and both realise ihat they are facing a bigger protflem than they expected. Experts calculate that- the deficit for 1032 amounts to £136,000,000 including £2?,000.000 paid as compensation for losses on the railways. It is expected ihat there will he a considerable increase in direct taxation, with more vigorous operation of the economy axe than since the time M. Poincare stabilised the franc. Tf is practically certain that- a guaranteed loan will be issued at a low rate of interest. Civil Service salaries and soldiers’ pensions, which jointly cost £184.000,000, axe expected to be cut.
