OBSERVING THE LAW
POLL FOB FOUR PERSONS
CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 9.
About two years ago Christchurch gained some fame on account of a local body poll at which all the electors recorded their votes. There were only two persons on the roll, a man and his wife., and the poll, was taken on the proposal to include their section in the Heathcote county in the Christchurch Drainage Board’s district. The preliminary steps are being taken at present in respect of a similar poll. Two property-owners in Waimairi. county whose sections arc just, outside, the Drainage Board’s district, and who are desirous of being able to have their premises connected .with the sowers, are taking acttion by means of a petition to have their sections added to the hoard s district. As in the* previous instance the procedure laid down in respect of local polls will have' to ho followed and the solemn business of -taking a poll of four persons will he gcmc through.
“llali’-a-pound of tobacco a week!” exclaimed a Brixtou "(London) coroner at the inquest on a commercial traveller whose nervous breakdown had ended in collapse and' ‘death, "rather much, wasn't it?” “It. was!” said the doctor who made die postmortem, “if the tobacco had ‘been right it might have been -different-. But hero was a man who had _hoou ’smoking hali'-a-ponnd of - .tobacco ’a week for years of a sort containing a large percentage of nicotine. The effect' was cumulative, and the heart ceased to function.” Unfortunately such cases are common. Happily New, Zealanders are fortunate in being able to get- tobacco second to none in quality and all hut free'from nicotine. Extraordinary care is taken jut the manufacture of this beautiful tobacco which is subjected to veryspecial treatment at the factory and which renders it perfectly harmless. Four brands only: Riverhead Gold, Navy Cut Xo. 3. Cavendish, and CutPluJ No. 10. No finer, tobacco is produced in any country in the world.—3lß. -
