FREAITER ASKED TO INTERVENE.

The film dispute took on another aspect, when the Theatrical Employees’ Union telegraphed Air. Lyons appealing to him to intervene to settle the disagreement between the 'American film distributors and the Australian Exhibitors’ Union. They informed the Prime Alinistcr that unless immediate action was taken 10,000 theatrical employees in Australia would become unemployed owing to thb closing of theatres.

The city sweltered to-day in a heat wave which came from the. west The temperature at two o’clock in the afternoon was 101.2 degrees. High readings were recorded in many places. Brewarrina and AA’hite Cliffs reported 114 degrees!; Bourke 113 degrees; Wilcannia 112 degrees and .Cohar and'Oanamble 111'degrees.
