’The claim of Mr. Patrick Morris, a Scottish house painter, that, he was the son of the late John Wen del, and thus heir to the "Wendel millions,” was rejected by the Surrogate in New York. The Surrogate criticised Mr. Morris for 'what be described as bis ‘■‘indecent, presentation of bis claim,*' and said he was going to ask the Public Prosecutor to investigate tbe claims with... a view, to criminal proceedings. (In New Yorf; the Surrogate is a person appointed to deal with questions of wills and probate.) The“ Wendel millions’’ is the fortune of Miss Ella Wendel, who died . in Neiy- York in 1931,'. leaving estate valued at upwards of £6,000.000. There have been more than 2000 claimants. Mr. Morris based bis claim oh the allegation, that lie was the son of Mary Ellen -.Devine,, who, he stated, married John "Wendel, the brother of Ella Wendel, iu 1870.
