The elephant, which ran amok at Cawnpore, killed live people and injur cd twenty, was owned by au ex-Judge of the Calcutta High Court. Tile animal was employed in hmd work and suddenly broke loose. It shook oil his new rnahput, trampled him. to death, and entered the Village scattering the inhabitants. The animal seized a woman an child at Hussianpur and killed hot i with its trunk. It trampled on an other woman and child, and then seiz ed a young coolie woman in its trjmk and carried her for half si mile, drop ping her unharmed, . Eventually the elephant was quietened by, the voice of its old mahout.
