MONEY MARKET
GOOD DEMAND FOR N.Z STOCKS.
PRICES STEADILY HARDENING.
(U.P.A, by Elec. T<4. Copyright.' (Received Jan. 8, 6.30 p.m.) LONDON, . Jan. 7
The Stock Exchange commenced the New Year quietly in the investment section. There was much activity in South African mining shares, and considerable business in industrials. Fears of dearer money, for which there hardly seems justification, except that a 40 per cent, call on the conversion loan is due on February 1, caused a slight setback in British funds early in the week, but this has since recovered. Australian and New Zealand Government issues continue to meet a good demand, and as there is not much stock available, prices are steadily hardening. There is an improved inquiry for industrials, including some which) were recently depressed and a fairly optimistic follnpf prevails regarding the course of prices in the immediate future.
