Red Sun, winner of the A.R.C. Handicap, is due to make his next appearance in the Wellington Cup, and if ho trains on. satisfactorily in the meantime and reproduces hi 3 Ellors]ie form he will be one of the hardest to beat. The Australian Sun gelding is one of the Didst improved handicap horse racing at the present time and his future prospects appear good. He ha? not been overtaxed this season and L likely to he a better horse by the time the autumn meeting arrives. Judged on his latest form, Red Bun gives every indication that he will eventually make a real stayer and a horse likely to do well in big handicap events later m the season.

The performances registered by Duifomons at Ellerslio clearly demonstrate that he i s one of the most brilliant two-year-olds seen out this season. He was only produced twice at the meeting, and after being beaten by a head by Princess- Doreen in the Great Northern Foal Stakes ho scored from a cln'ssy field in the Royal Stakes on the final day. In the last-named event he began with all his customary speed and had the ether runners in trouble at the end of the first furlong, but was all out at tho finish to win by half a length. Di atom on's wn* bred by Mr 04. A. King, of Ora.ri, and when submitted to auction at the yearling sales hekl at Trentham in 1932 ho was purchased by his present owner. Air M. Miller,' of Palmerston'North, for 65gns. He -i s bred on sound staying lines on his maternal side, as his dam, ■Spangle, is a full-sister to Marsa, the dam of that proved stayer Nightmarch

The Hunting Song three-year-old Grand Sport will in future ho - trained hv J. M. Cameron at Hastings. This hack only started once at the Auckland summer meeting running unplaced in the County Hadicap. Ho drew No. lat th e harrier, hut got chopped out at the start and afterwards met with a lob of trouble. As the result he was cut about rather badly and will need a short spell. Grand Sport put up several fa'.St, gallops at Itho mooting and more is likely to be heard of him before the present season is over.

Pillow Eight is due to leave for America on the Monterey a fortnight hence. This gelding rac-ed disappontingly at Ellebslic, but hi s form in the Derby and Clifford Plate was not altogether surprising, as his preparation was hardly a solid one; the anxiety caused through his leg injury being a factor which prevented him being thoroughly wound up. Pillow Fight ha s capabilities, and when more physically fit twill give a better account of" himself. At time of writing j, lg Cutli Morse (formerly of Gisborne) has decided to accompany him, and in this mentor’s absence-his team twill bo managed by J. Farrell.

Present intentions arc to nominate Speedmint for the Sydney Cup, and if all goes well she will make the trip. Speedmint has numerous seconds to her credit this season, including the King Edward Memorial and A.R..C. Handicaps, over one mi] 0 and a-half journeys, while her fifth in the Auckland Cup after being one of the last to enter the straight, suggests that her capabilities a' s a stayer cannot he overlooked, so that the trip acres the Tasman may not prove uneventful. ,

While contesting the Tariki Handicap on. the first day of the Stratford meeting Hollyholm,, owned by. the Te Rapa- trainer, M. J. Carroll, broke a fetlock and had to bo destroyed. The mishap occurred only about a furlong from the finish when Hollyholm ■was going well, with good prospects of .success. ITo collapsed suddenly a short distance from homo nd it was later discovered that lie. had broken a fetlock. Hollyholm, who had shown promise on occasions, was just getting near his host.

Racing enthusiasts, generally speaking are always ready to note any omen which indicates a. particular horse in a. race, but few of those at Mak.araka on Boxing Day took heed of a- really "hot tip” which the City Band provided shortly before the last race. Departing slightly from the musical programme set. down, the hand, during - the preliminaries before the last event, played a march named ""Wedding Bells’’ composed bv Leach. At least one of the bandsmen noticed the coincidence and made an investment on the mare Yvcdding Bells, with J. Loach in the saddle. Wedding Bolls romped homo easily and paid" tile largest dividend of the day This little incident provides another illustration, of tho wide knowledge required bv the .successful ‘‘punter/’ a knowledge of music in this instance.
