GANDHI’S TEN COMMANDMENTS
AN ASCETTC PHILOSOPHY
Hahatmn Gandhi, Hindu philosopher- and leader, cites his philosophy of life in the following 10 commandments :—l —Truth. 2—Ahimsa, which may he translated into English as love. 3 —Brahmncharya, which may ho inadequately expressed as chastity. q—'Restraint of the palate, which he elaborates ns eating for the mere sustenance of the body, abstaining' from intoxicating drinks and drugs such as opium and tobacco. s—Abstaining from the possession of things for themselves. 6 —Adherence to life’s law that one’s bread must he earned by the sweat of one’s brow. 7 Swadeshi, the belief that man’s primary duty is to serve his neighbour. S—Belief tin the equality of all mankind. 9—Belief in the equality of all the great faiths of the world. 10—Fearlessness.
