PASSENGER FARES TO ENGLAND
CHEAPER SEA TR.vVEL. A. general lowering of the cost of sea travel between New Zealand and England has been arranged by the British companies concerned. In the case of the direct Uncs operating via the Panama Canal the cuts in passenger fares are fairly drastic. Reduced rates will also apply to the fines operating from Australian ports-. The New Zealand Shipping Company Ltd, and Shaw, Savifi and Albion Co. Ltd., announce very considerable' reductions in first and cabin class fares by their vessels to England, via Panama Canal. The new rates operated as front January 3.
The first-class fares, which previously ranged from £lO2 to £132 single, and from £l7O to £231. return, wiU now be from £BS to GUO single, and from £1.49 to £1.03 return. Cabin class fares, which bare been from £72 to £B4 single and from 16123 to £147 return, are now reduced to from £67 to £B2 single and from £ll7 to £144 return. These decreases are supplementaly to reductions recent! made by converting vessels from first-class to cabin class. Through rates by these lines from Australia will he at £2 single and £4 return over'the New Zealand fares. The Australian and New Zealand Passenger Conference also; announces reduced fares from New Zealand to London by the Suez and Cape Lines. ; The new -rates are as follows: — Via the Suez Canal: First-class, from £B7; second-class, from £37. Via the Capo of Good Hope: Firstclass, from £73: cabin class,, from £63 t-A : London cable message says the reduction of passenger rates to Australia and elsewhere is favorably commented on in the City ns a bold endeavour to, induce more busniess men to travel and also to use j first-class instead of cheaper accommodation.
