FIRST LAMBS OFFERED

BRISK SALE FOR SHEEP

After a break over the holidays, the Matawhero stock sales were resumed yesterday, when there was only a moderate offering. The first store lambs of the season came forward and met with a good demand. There waa also >a brisk sale of fat sheep. BEEF Only 12 fat cattle came forward. Quality Hereford cow s made 455, good summer-weight cows, 27g 6d to 355, and three heifers 355. Prices were: One cow with vealer, 30s; 3 heifers 355; 2 young cows, summer weight, 355; 3 P.A.-Hereford cows, same .finish, 27a 6d; & good-finished Hereford cows, 455, FAT SHEET With the light entry there was a brisk sale. Ewes wer© generally of first-ela'ss quality, and were in demand by butchers, showing an advance in values. The highest price, for old ewes was 5s <(d, others making 4s 7d to os Id. Mixed 2-ths made 8s lid. Prices were:— Ewes: 40 at 4s lOd ; 19, ss; 13, 4s 7d; 11 mixed 2-ths, 8s lid; 29, 5s 4d; 42, 5s Id. Lambs; 4 medium weight, Ss 3d, Wethers: 5 at 9s 3d. Second-grade iarnbs: 4 at Cs Id. Second-grade: ewes: 19 at 3s; 30 at 3s Id. PIGS Only 16 pigs came forward, all being weaners. Quotations are : Extra 15s, quality 10s, good average 6s 6cl, 7s 6d, 8s 6d. Prices were: — Six good weaners, 8s 6d and 6s 6d; 3 good weaners, 7s 6d; 4 quality Berkshire weaners, 10s; 3 better than last pen, 15s. STOREI SHEEP The entry of store sheep totalled 1250, almost all being lambs, the first yarded this season. These met with a good demand at the following values; Romney lambs: Well-grown, good condition, 5s 8cl; fairly good size and condition, 3s 8d to 4s 4d; fair s;ze and condition, 2s lOd to 3s 4d; medium to small, 2s 4d; small and poor, 2s. Down lambs: Medium to good size, fresh condition, 5s 7d; small, good order, 2s lOd. Old ewes; Fairly forward, 2s 9d • fair condition Is Id. Prices .were:—
