THREE PORTFOLIOS OFFERED • COUNTRY PARTY. LETTER ACCEPTED FOR FUTURE NEGOTIATIONS. (U.P.A. by Elec. Tel. Copyright.) CANBERRA, Oct. 13. The olffcr by Mr. Lyons of three portfolios to members of the Country Party was the subject of a lengthy discussion by the Country Party, after which it wax decided to accept Mr. Lyons’ letter as a basis for future negotiations. The Country Parly attitude is that it must preserve its identity, and that it cannot permit Air. Lyons to select from it his Ministers. The parly also desires, before accepting seats in the Ministry, to settle future policy on matters affecting producers, including exchange. The Country Party passed a resolution of confidence in its leader, Dr. Earle Page. Mr. Lyons later sent a letter to Dr. Page, emphasising that his letter was not intended t» be an invitation to a general discussion, and asking whether the proposal was acceptable to the Country Party or notNEGOTIATIONS WITH COUNTRY PARTY FAIL THREE NEW MINISTERS FROM GOVERNMENT RANKS (U.I'.A. by Elec. Mr Lyons therefore announces tonight th e following changes in the Ministry:— Postmaster-General: Mr Archdale Parkhill: -Minister of Commerce, Mr ]■'. IT. Stewart : Minister of the Interior, Mr J. Parkins; Assistant Minister. Mr J. A Guy. Air Parkhill was formerly Minister of the Interior and Afr Perkins Assistant Afiuister of Commerce.
