OBITUARY

MR L. P. BULLEN

The.: dearth occurred in Palmerston North on AVeduesday of Mr Lysaght Philpot, CDick) Bullen, formerly a very well-known and highly-esteemed resident of Gisborne. Mr Bullen left' this district about .2£ years ago to reside with a daughter in Fending and practically ever since leaving Gisborne, he had been an invalid. z Born in the South Island, the late Air Bullen was the eldest son of the late Sergeant Bullen, for many years sergeant of police in Gisborne, and afterwards bailiff,in, the Magistrate’s, Court. Tho deceased came to Gisborne about 40 years ago when his father was transferred to Hie station, here, and lor a number of years he was employed as a legal clerk by the late Mr H. J. Finn. Subsequently he commenced work as a bridge contractor, and was thus engaged until fairly recent .years, when he Retired from business. _ . Mr Bullen is survived by a widow and three , daughters, Mrs C. Smith, of Foilding, Mrs T. Monteitli, of Taraparaniu, and Miss Francis Bullen, of Otago, to whom the sympathy or many, friends in Gisborne will be extended. MRS. ELIZABETH NEIL. The death occurred at her residence in Gladstone road, last evening of a very old and highly respected resident of the district, Airs. Florence Neil, relict of Captain Neil, one of the best known shipmasters of the early days of the Bay. Airs. Neil, who was 92 years of age, was born in Edinburgh Castle, and came to New Zealand as an infant in 1840. Her parents removed to Napier and she took up her residence here about forty-five vears ago. Captain Neil was., very well-known in the port, being at various times master of the Spark, a popular tender in the early days, the W’aihi, and later the Tuatca. Airs. Neil leaves one son, who is a resident in Western Australia.
