WAGE “CUTS”
NO FURTHER GENERAL ORDER THIS YEAR
ASSURANCE BY. EMPLOYERS
During conciliation proceedings at Wellington an assessor representing workers in the bakery Prude asked whether any assurance could be given that the proposed wage rates, if agreed to, would not be subject to a further general reduction by order of the Arbitration Court.
Iu reply, Air T. 0. Bishop, secretary of the Employers’ Federation, pointed out that the court’s power to make another reduction would expire on December 31. “Therefore”, lie said, “any further order would have to be made between now and the end of the year. I can assure you that there is no intention on Hie part of the employers to ask Bor another general order this year."
