—HOW ARE EARTHQUAKES CAUSED ? Different parts of the oartli are constantiy contracting of expanding. If ono part- contracts or expands more quickly than another there is a rupture or explosion. Heat a thick piece of glass on one side. 'Thatside will expnnd. The other does not, and the glass cracks. The crack is a miniature earthquake.
