PUBLICATION OF THE TERRV LETTERS'. LONDON, November V*. “Gordon Craig’s statements are a string of whoppers,” declares lie*.*. Bernard Shaw, in “The .Observer," regarding Craig's attack on him for publishing personal letters to hm\ (Shaw) Hum the famous actress, 17ien Terry, Craig’s mother. Craig, in his book, “Ellen Terry ami Her Secret Self,” accuses Shav of being caddish, and says that any man holding such letters from woman and publishing them showed, at least, a luck of good manners. He claimed that the letters''had been published illegally. “Craig consented in writing to the publication of the letters, though his heart was not in the, promise," says Shaw. ‘‘When Edith Craig urged the publication. 1 was at first os stupid as Craig. I only remembered the intimate, affectionate character of the letters when legal complications forced me to consent. The issue was limited- to an edition, tno preparation of which converted rne to Edith’s view. “Gordon denounced the woman genius dominating him. and emphasised ‘Nelly’s’ motherliness Edith championed th e actress, and disliked cordon’s Nelly. . ‘‘Consequently the brother and sister were at loggerheads, and 1 was caught between the incensed points of these mighty opposites, getting more kicks than half-pennies from Gordon.”
