“SOUTHERN SUN” LEAVES SYDNEY FOR LONDON

The giant monoplane was escorted by two smaller planes and passed over the harbor, the ferry boats meanwhile tooting their joyous farewell. The smaller planes soon returned and the “Southern Sun” continued her journev northward to Queensland, favored by a following wind. The chief pilot is “Scotty” Alien, and tho co-pilot and engineer is R. N. Boulton, and the wireless operator G. Callaghan. There ore two passengers on hoard the “Southern Sim”, Colonel Brihsmcad, Controller of Civil Aviation, add Mr B. Rubin, a wealthy grazier. The mail carried consists of 51,277 articles from all States and New Zealand weighing 33261 b, Mr E. T. Fisk, managing director of Amalgamated- Wireless Ltd., had intended to bo a passenger, but pressuro of business prevented him. Another of the disappointed was Mr E. B. Day, of New Zealand, who had to be' left behind owing to lastminute rush of mail matter. Pilot Allen’s last words were.; “This is a wonderful chance. I am looking forward to the trip and ani sure we will do it.'*
