A fatal accident occurred on the main road half a mile from Taneatna township last night, when'Lahce Foster, aged about - 50 and J. Ferguson, both single men, were run into by a baby car driven by R. Mitchell. Fos_ ter was caught about the legs and sent under the bonnet first and then through the windscreen, receiving such serious injuries that he died in a few: moments. Ferguson was .fortunate and received only bruises and a dislocated ankle. The car was damaged but the driver escaped unhurt-

GALLANT ATTEMPT AT RESCUE

About 4 oclock yesterday afternoon Francis Irwin, 56, who had joined his son’s family from Hamilton for a holiday at Mount MaunganUi, fell from the rocks while" fishing- at the Blow Hole on Moturiki Island. There was some delay in getting the life, saving reel across the precipitous track and Aubrey Courtenay ran ahead, dived in, and caught bold of Irwin. When the party' arrived they found Irwin and ' Courtenay 200 yards from the shore. Irwin was unconscious and Courtenay almost- exhausted fighting! with the tide rip. Douglas Limber went out with a life line, relieved Courieuay of his burden, and the two swam ashore with lUwin. Limber was badly bruised on’ the rocks. Re. suscitation, in which Nurses-Brookes and Morris,and. Miss -Head-took part was tried for two hours, when l3r! Ban dell pronounced life extinct . Deceased leaves four sons and two daughters.
