MONTHLY MELTING
The monthly meeting of the Povedrty Bay Electric Power Board was held ve.u'erdav. the chairman. Me F. B. Ball, presiding ever the following: Messrs. T. Corson, .1. Tombleson, I. Collin, A. C. Steele, L. 11. .Mat-Lean. M. T. Traff.vji and B J. Holdswortli.
The engineer (Air. W. H.. Bus well) presented the following report, on work carried out during January: “During the month the work included the completion of an extension in Patutalu to Brosnalian s and (/.tiers, which was livened up on January 8: also a special connection along the Westmere road to Mr. Cokers residence. An interruption to the Government supply_ occurred at 4.4 p.m. on January 7 and lasted until S.LS p.m. owing to. (he reported breaking of a pin-type insulator on the 50 k.v. lines at Buakituri ns a result of the recent gales. . A further intorruyition oeeuvred to Tlio Government supply at 10.45 a.in. on January 12, lasting until 10.48 arm., and a more pronounced interruption occurred on the'same day, lasting Irom Vi.2o a.m. to 3.28 ]i.m.. the cause having been repbried to bo a- broken insulator, ns on January 7 and from tbe same cause. On both occasions the hoard’s standby oil plant was brought into' commission and carried (lie Toad during the interval., which 1 included a supply to one freezing machine and auxiliaries a-t the Haiti freezing works. _ ‘‘Tests are being carried out in connection with , milking sheds with a view to elinlinnling certain defects, also tests in connection with ranges and water-heaters a.r 0 being made. Tbe following matters have received attention during the past month: Overhauling and painting saw-bench ; garage door stops; filing cabinet for trading motor general or for PaLitahp sub-sta-tion; preparation of 40-chain, plans; overhauling and reconditioning of transport; intercommunicating telephone reconstruction'; |Mid worth <wl-ibrat-ion and tests; inspection of Vines; re-ereetion of- private teleplume. line at Bore. “Maintenance. AVerk: Due chiefly to adverse weather conditions, maintenance work for the month has been particularly heavy. .Two C. 6 k.v.' transformers were burnt-out during the month, the cause in both leases being .attributable to the heavy winds causing the 1.1. wires do twist together. As'tbe result of a ear accident at the corner, of Aberdeen ancl Roebuck roads, a l.t. power polo was knocked' oiit of alignment and minor damage was done to tbe cable and ‘fittings. It was found necessary to replace a l.t. power pole as a result of the Garrison Hall fife. Extensive tree-cutting operations have been necessary and much ~ more yet , reliiahis tn he dono in this -direction. The blowing of-, h.t. transformer fuses has been very prevalent during the month, arid the: automatic G.G.B.’s at the bottom of Grey’s Hill and also at the bottom of Ngatapa Hill have tripped out due to heavy overloads occasioned by heavy winds.
