I'IES SWEETS AND SHILLINGS
(U.T’.A. by Elec. Tel. Copyrtalio (Received Feb. 20, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON. Feb. ‘25.
Great excitement prevailed in Charlie Chaplin’s old school at llanwell, where the children awaited his arrival, the school hand playing. A large van arrived loaded with custard pies, which were distributed, then another van containing other sweets, and lastly, a private car with Chaplin’s emissaries carrying a bag o? brand new shillings from the mint. Charles Chaplin himself did not appear. He explained later that ho intended to visit the school, but it became known and therefore could not be a private 'affair as lie desired. The movement to bestow official honor on Charlie Chaplin is widely supported.
