SMALLPOX EPIDEMIC
SERIOUS OUTBREAK IN CALCUTTA. (U.P.A. by Elec. Tol. Copyright) CALCUTTA, Feb. 24. The city 'is in the grip of a smallpox epidemic, which begau on January 4. and to Saturday caused 167 deaths. Tliirty thousand vaccinations • have been undertaken weekly by Government doctors alone, besides thousands by private practitioners. The worst of the epidemic is ..expected three weeks hence. Thus far only a few Europeans have been attacked bv the disease.
