LONDON. January 1. An illustration of the acute depression is the reduction in the bulk of both wholesale and retail trade. A statement of the London bankers’ clearing house for ' 1930 shows a turn-over of £1,338.090.000 below 1929 despite the fact that the first half of the year was showing a comparative increase of £206.000.000. The Times correspondent in Paris says the Franco-Britisli Treasury officials will confer on January 2' to prepare an agenda for conversations to be held later in London to promote closer co-operation between the London and Paris money markets, especially giving attention to the control of the gold drain from London. which is inconveniencing both sides of the Channel.
