LONDON, >ec. 31. The Daily Express publishes a message smuggled from a prison near Madrid from Senor Zamore, leader of the Republicans, detailing the elaborate preparations before the revolt towards the establishment of a republic. He himself would have been the first president. He points out that the people were forced to adopt revolutionary methods because the monarchy showed itself directly culpable of the shameful oppression imposed by’ the dictatorship under which it sheltered, opposing a real constitution.
“The monarchy deserves to fall and it will fall”, Senor Zamora affirms. “The plot failed because Jaea enthusiasts took action precipitately three days before the call.” The Liberal leader, Senor Romanones, in an interview with King Alfonso, advised His Majesty to constitute a constitutional coalition government to take over control until the passions of the people subside. _ General Berenguer. in an interview with the press, reiterated his intention of holding an election in March.
Senor Romanones replied advising the Liberals to ignore General Berenguer as being quite unsuited to the preparation of a general election.
