ABOLITION OF RATIONING WORK IN N.S.W.

Employers and industrial leaders declared that the abolition of rationing in private employ will, not only operate disastrously against a. large body of employees but also have. a. had effect upon industry itself. The employers are unanimous that the declaration df a. 44-hour week will have a disastrous effect upon New South Wales. •
Mr. R. E. Marks, ex-president of the Chamber of Manufacturers, said: “Poor old New South Wales is going to l he pushed right into the background. Our manufacturers cannot possibly, compete with those of other States working 4.8 hours, neither ;can our business people.” Industrial leaders expressed the opinion that shop assistants, if given the opportunity, would decide in favor of rationing to avoid dismissals.
