Somq excitement, was caused in town yesterday, when word, was received that an aeroplane.accident had occurred up the Coast, and all thoughts turned to the Commercial Airways Spartan biplane, piloted by Mr Jack Buekeridge, which arrived from Wairoa at'tho beginning of the week, and early yesterday afternoon was flying over the town. . On the previous afternoon the-ma-chine had visited Waipiro Bay and taken passengers for flights, and it was decided to continue the enterprise yesterday afternoon. The plane left town shortly after 2 p.m. piloted by Mr T- Buekeridge, who had as a passenger _Mr Prank Petre, of Wellington, a director of Commercial Airways. On arrival at Waipiro Bay there was a large number of.-people on the beach. The plane r eached, the end of the. beach and in endeavouring to turn, jus before landing, stalled, losing flying way, arid crashed into . a bouse which fortunately happened to be unoccupied at the. time, the occupants being on ,the beach. -The.nose of the plane , went through the /house and became firmly wedged in the kitchen. ... ." :/. ..
The-two occupants were thrown out and Mr Buekeridge received, a nasty cut'.above the eve,' being removed to Te Puia Hospital for Mr Petre. was uninjured save for bruises and shock.
The plane was badly damaged, being practically smashed in two.Late last evening Buekeridge was, reported to be quite comfortable.
Mr. C, Nicholla, will, motor to Waipiro Bay; this , morning and make arrangements to have the plane* brought to Gisborne for repairs..
