FIRE IN SCHOOL

ATTEAIPT TO BURN CONVENT INSTITUTION.

■ Evidences of a deliberate but unsuccessful attempt to burn down the Convent school in Heretaunga street, Hastings, were discovered by firemen and the police when summoned by'an alarm given at 5.20 a.m. to-day. Little damage was done to the building, which is old and is built entirely ot wood, and which is shortly to be replaced by a now building, towards the construction of which thousands of pounds have beeri collected. After the'fire was extinguished, it was discovered that ■ someone had forced onen a window, and after pouring benizine or kerosene on the floor <hatl. thrown'-' down a lighted match. - A- passer-by noticed the outbreak and gave the alarm.
