SLUMP IN WHEAT
DEPLORABLE PLIGHT OF N.S.W GROWERS.
NO SHIPMENTS,
NO SILOS AND
NO CASH TO BUY BAGS
(UP. A. by Elec. Tel. Copyright) SYDNEY, Dec. 31,
The deplorable plight of wheatgrowers is exemplified' in the latest announcement that merchants have ceased operating. Practically no shipments are being arranged, and silo facilities are wholly incapable of bolding the wheat being harvested, because 1,000,000 bushels of last season’s wheat is still on hand at terminal elevators. Furthermore, farmers have not the ready cash to buy bags. *
It is officially stated that wheat is practically unsaleable. Argentine grain is being offered in London at 2s 6d a bushel, and Australian at 3s 03d.
