PEERAGE POSSIBLE
AUSTRALIA'S NEW GOVERNORGENERAL.
FAVORABLE COMMENT IN LONDON.
GOOD EFFECT OX SHARE MARKET.
(U.P.A. by Elec. Tel. Copvright) LONDON. Dec. 7
The “Sunday News” understands that there is 'a strong possibility of Sir Isaac Isaacs being raised to tlie peerage. _ . - City comment is thus far confined to expressions of relief that a man of such extreme ability and unquestioned impartiality should hare been selected.
Share quotations are not affected. Some brokers believe that the appointment tends to counteract rather than otherwise the depressing effect of the publication -of the . reduced Australian revenue returns.
■“The Economist,” referring to Press apprehension says the Governorship has become the reward for political services, and points out that future Governors-Generals niay be drawn not only from Australians, but from distinguished persons in different parts of tlie Empire. ‘‘The Economist” does not doubt that future Premiers’ selections will be guided by the success Or failure of the present experiment.
