Tlie Oolyton Handicap on. the second day at Feil'dihg provided the star finish of the meeting, the three placed hordes crossing the line practically together and the Verdict being in doubt till the numbers were hoisted. The decision was for Tentefaen, rank outsider of the small field, with Aiitopay (on the rails), aiid Just an Idea (outer) dead-heated for second, half a head Away. Just an Idea would have won in, another stride. There have been few winners of the Auckland Cup with nine stone or over. Nelson, winner in three successive _ years, carried 9.8. when lie scored his second victory in 188 G and n. 12 in the following year. That stands as the record weight-carrying Feat of the race. Wairaki won with 9. Bin 1903,. All died .with 9.1 in 1830 and Rapine with '9rß i'n 1928. No other horse has succeeded with nine stone or over. ■ .Ni.ghtma.reh will therefore havotto create a record to win, and at the present stage the vote is against his doing so.
