Tobacco is growing ahead in the Nelson district and good progress is being made m the Auckland province, but last year there were no returns from other districts. According to a return submitted to Parliament -Nelson commenced tobacco production in 1925, Auckland entering the field in 1928-29, when the production comprised : Nelson district, 1,062,3921 b; Auckland, 45.2001 b; other districts, 60,0091 b. Last vear the Nelson output was 1,045,6321 b, ; value . £105,02S Auckland, 215,6001 b, value £21,480; other districts, nil. The growing acreage of this crop is shown as follows: 1925-26, *450 . acres; 1926-2. 300 acres; 1927-28, 720 acres; 1928-29 1608 acres; 1929-30, 1687 acres. There are 491 growers in tlip Nelson district and .five.; companies cultivating tobacco in the Auckland district.
