A further round in the senior midweek competition was played at the Oval on Thursday under very favorable conditions. Defence maintained their unbeaten record by scoring a first-innings .win over Nomads, while Cash Stores had an easy innings victory against, Y.M.C.A. DEFENCE V. NOMADS.

Batting first against Defence, Nfniads.made a good start, Clifton (11) and Lockett putting' on 41 for the first wicket, while the latter and Dow added a further 53 for the second. Lockett was • then out for. a hard-hit 63, which included two sixers and seven fours. Dow ran his total to a level 59 by confident cricket, but the rest of the . side did little and tho total was 143 only, after 94 had been scored with only one wicket down, R. Scholium and C. King were tha successful Defence bowlers. Defence lost their first three wickets for 18, but Nicholson and R. Scholium (15) then took the total to 55.. Joe Scholium then partnered Nicholson and 121 were on the board _ before Nicholson left. after compiling a sound 37 (five fours). T. Atkinson was next and some bright batting carried the team past the Nomads’ total, Atkinson eventually being, out fop 27, mainly by six boundaries. In the course of this partnership, 22 runs were hit off one over from Lockett. After Atkinson’s departure Scholium could' get nohoclv to stay with', him and the last man was out with only 10 runs added, the total being 180. Scholium carried his bat for 60 made in his usual correct style and including two sixes and six fours. Mainly through some lino bowling by J .1. MacDonald and N. Htildswor 111. especially on the part of _ Uie former, Cash Stores had an innings victory over Y.M.C.A. Cash Stores rail np 60 for *lb'c first two wickets, Holdsworth making 18., Carroll .‘V (four fours) and Newton 16, but from then on wickets fell fairly reguluil,. and the side was out for 111. Graham with 14 being the only other double-figure scorer. Duckworth, four fore3o, and Gosney two tor 1/, did best with the ball for Y.M.C.AGoing to the wicket/, Y.M.C.A. immediately found themselves in trouble to the bovlinrr of Holdsworth and MacDonald. Littler (12). Shernff (9) and Ylurton (8) were the only men to trouble the scorers much and the side was dismissed for 33, the last four falling without a run being added. Holdsworth took four for Id and MacDonald six for 20* cacli sendin'o’ down five overs. Following on, Y.M.C.A. improved a little. Jansson making 17 not out and Hayes 11. but could not save the innings defeat. MacDonald secured seven for 1.5, making his match tally tlio very fine one of thirteen for 35.
