OiIRBORNE CLUB OPENS SEASON.
•MILLER WINS HARBOR RACE,
The harbor race hold last evening l).y the:Gisborne Surf and Swimming Club drew a large number of spectators and the event furnished an excellent contest, the scratch man, J. Millar, coining through to win by two yards in the last 25 yards of the race. Starting from the" Works side of the harbor, twelve" swimmers finished at the No. 1 shed wharf in the folio wilier order: J. Miller, 7scc. 1; S. Corson, l7sec.; 2; A. Clark, 13soc. 3.,, T. Waucbop 13 see., .1. Crawford 12sec., H. Littler 22sec., D. Millar 19see., F. Micliie. 23sec., .J. Forster. L. Buchanan, R. Scott, I>\ Allen 25 secs., also competed. .Tinny 2.22 3-5. Tlfe presentation of the cup took place at the conclusion of the race by Mr. J. S. Waucliop who complimented the winner on Ill’s good-showing and condition, also upon being the first, swimmer to win the cup that was presented through that sterling sport, Mr. Billy Miller, who still kept in touch with sport in this district.
