‘‘MARRIAGE PLAYGROUND” AND “UNDERTOW,” .

Commencing at to-day’s matinee at the Alajestic Theatre there will be presented a donule feature ail-talk-ing programme of more than usual merit, the headliners being ‘The Alarriage. .Playground” with a notable'cast, and"“Undertow,” a Paramount production starring IVTary -Brian. Two of the cleverest children of the screen to-day, Phillippe do Lacy and little Mitzi Green, appear m support of Alary Brian and Frederic. March in “The Marriage Playground. • The story is set against an ultrafashionable background. ' the chief, character being Judith Wbeater. the eldest >of seven children, of the marriages'of their divorce, -crazy parents. Practically deserted bv their parents, the children are left to wander about the fashionable resorts of Europe and Judith assumes the role of guardian to them.. Difficulties arise when she falls' in love with Martin Boyne, on whom she is unwilling to inflict the responsibility for six turbulent youngsters which she has taken upon herself. Eventually the • belated intervention of the parents clears the situation and the young couple are left to seek happiness together. Prominent among the supporting cast. are Lilyan Tashman. Ivay Francis and Huntley Gordon. The picture contains some excellent comedy touches. In “Undertow,” the second feature, Mary. -Nolan is the star and reaches a pinnacle of sheer drama in a portrayal which definitely marks her as one of the finest eriiotional actresses of the talking screen. The lighthouse scenes,' exteriors and seascapes give unusual scope for photographic beau-, tv of which the fullest advantage has been taken. The dramatic situations of the film are presented in full dia- - 100-ue and the natural effects. accompanying it, such as the storm, were photographed in full sound. Supporting Marv Nolan are Johnny Alack ■Brown. Robert Ellis, Churchill Ross and Audrey Ferris. In addition. . a sporting youth feature 1 Lady of the Lions” and the Talking Gazette.
