CANON - PAOKE .PLEADS FOR NEW METHODS.
At Tuesday’s session of tho Waiapu Diocesan Synod, Canon Pncke (Gisborne) moved-: That this Synod (a) do repeal ihet present constitution of the Sunday School Association and request tho- liishop of the Diocese, to draw up a'smplor term: (hi direct Standing Committee to make provision , for .the appointment of an itinerant expert-, to visit each Parish and Parochial Di<-tr t-fc to demonstrate to teachers and arouse religious enthusiasm among parents (at a cost nob to exceed it i'J/J per annum,).’’
Canon Pa eke, • m speaking to ins motion, pointed out the present day sense 0/ the importance of the education of youth. He .instanced the qpenitig of eolumns in the press to religious , instruction and . to such tilings as children’s corners. Jne present day knowledge of psychology necessitated new methods, though he believed a lot <f nonsense was talked about under the name of psychoanalysis. There was in renhtv no substitute for the word sin. - Parents needed to bo helped in educating Iheir children in religious matters. He hoped that some itinerant expert would Ixj appointed to .lic-lp teachers and parents in outlying districts ol the diocese in this .work.
The heed for such work was stressed by several members of Synod and the motion -was passed with the omission of. the last clause..
