Judging bv the expressions of approval heard from all sides, the British all-talking picture, ““Hie American Prisoner” proved a big success at the Majestic last evening. Tho action and dialogue wore reproduced perfectly, and the scenes _ of Dartmoor and its environs were picturesque to the extreme, and presented a refreshing change. Carl lirissBon, in the title role, acquitted himself in a pob’shed manner, and Madeleine Carroll, who played opposite, was the quintessence of charm. Equally important parts were played bv Bromley Davenorb as the “Snuire” and Cecil Barrv as “Peter Noreot” who played .their respective roles in a flawless manner. Tho story of “The American Prisoner” concerns a young American naval officer who is captured by the British for smuggling arms to the French during tlio Napoleonic wars of 1810. He meets and falls in love with the charming daughter of n local squire, and carries on a passionate love making until armistice is declared, when lie is released from prison and allowed to marry her. The supnorting featurettes include the all-talking comedy, “The Big Kick” featuring Harry Langdon, the Metrotone News, ’ and the musical comedy star, Yvette R.iigel, ■ - in several charming, songs.
