The vital statistics for the Opotiki district for the quarter ending September 30 are as follows, last year’s figures being given in parentheses: Births 20 (19), deaths 0 (10), marriages 0 (8).

Tlie number of birtlis recorded by the Registrar lor Dunedin and district for the month ended to-day, was 119, as compared with 147 for September of last year. The number of deaths was 103 as against 90, and marriages totalled 48 as against G2. The figures for the July-August-September quarter were as follows, those for the corresponding quarter of last year being given in parentheses: Birth 3G9 (394), deaths 307 (287), marriages 144 (1(33). Of the deaths during the past quarter 31 were of children under ten, sixteen of these being under 12 months.
