Somewhere in the Red Sea is a mystery ship hurrying to Britain carrying Persian treasures valued at nearly £3,000,000 for exhibition at the Royal Academy at New Year. She is indeed the Argosy of Art, her cargo including jewel-encrusted swords, -shields, and sceptres, some emeralds being as large as a man s band from the Shah’s Crown jewels, exquisite carpets woven in gold and silver from famous mosques, also priceless manuscripts, miniatures and brocades, transported from Jeberun and the Persian Gulf ,l>y air to avoid the dangers of breakage by camel transport over mountain passes. Sir Denison Itoss, one of the organisers, says the vessel s name will not he revealed owing to fear that pirates may waylay her.
