Various alterations in .-the Harbor Board by-laws, in. relation to tlio. storing of produce pending shipment, were authorised at; yesterday's board meeting. The suggested alterations were recommended by the finance committee whose report to the board in. tlio following terms, was adopted: “The committee considered the question regarding whether shippers of niaize, fruit etc., should be assisted by being allowed extended use of the cargo sheds, to enable., consignments to be accumulated without double handling previous, to arrival of tlio loading vessel. The committee considers the charge of one shilling, per ton per day at present made wnot clearly provided for in the by-' laws and is too high a rate for outward cargo. “The committee recommends tlio hoard to authorise tho secretary to prepare by-law amendments providing that when, in the opinion of the wharfinger, sufficient accommodation is available either in tiva sheds or on the wharf and discharge of any vessel to arrive would not he detrimentally affected, outward consignments may be deposited in tho sheds .<»» 011 the wharf for tjio first liignt, bundays and statutory holidays free, _ each subsequent night;in the sheds to be charged at- three pence per ton weight or measurement according to whichever is adopted in collection ot wharfage.
