STRIKERS ATTACK SHEARERS

A serious fracas occurred at Bullsbroolc when a party of 18 shearers proceeded to another station for work ■and were attacked by a large number of striking shearers. After the fight the men were overpowered and were compelled to return to Perth under the escort of their attackers. Throe arrests have been made.

TRADE UNIONS BANNED IN FINLAND.

The Public Prosecutor lias issued writs against 1209 associations affiliated with the Trades Union Congress, demanding their dissolution on. the ground that their activities are dangerous to the State, and alleging that the congress is planning a Communistic revolution.

WELLINGTON. Sept. -29. Referring to the Dunedin message, which stated that a section of the miners in the lignite coal mines in Southland are going slow as the result of a dispute with, the owners regarding methods of extracting coal, Air. T. 0. Bishop, secretary of the New Zealand Coal Afine Owners’ Association. said he had no knowledge of any dispute in Southland. He pointed out that the proper preparation of coal before blasting was a statutory requirement under the Coal ATines Act, and its regulation?, and the mine-owners had no option in the matter.

It is renortod here that a section of the miners in the lignite coal mines of Southland are going stow as a result of a dispute with the owners as to the methods ol extracting coal. The miners ask that the blasting of coal he allowed, but the owners are determined to adhere to the award, which provides for cutting and holing. Some Southland mines, as a, result of the go-slow policy, have been compelled to ask customers to accept coni front Otago mines. This policy of the miners is regarded as a peculiar commentary on" their present agitation for tiie placing of an embargo on Australian coal.
