The many friends of Air. C. A. de Lautour, who has been indisposed ior some days, will he pleased to learn that his’ condition showed improvement yesterday.

Mr. AA T . H. Scott, borough traffic inspector, has been appointed traffic inspector for the counties of Cook, Waikohu, Uawa, Waiapu and Matagaoa. There were 34 applications for the position, and. subject to the approval of the Main Highways Board, Mr. Scott will take up his new duties on October 80. For the past., ton. years; Mr. Scott lias been traffic inspector for the Gisborne Borough Council.

The death occurred at- Cook Hospital on Sunday of Miss Minnie Bel!, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. t.. Bell. Miss Bell, Who was born in Gisborne in March 1905, was educated at the Gisborne Central School and was later in the employ of Mr. T. P. Gordon and Air. AY. McKinnon; Seven years ago, however, .she was stricken with an illness from which she finally succumbed. Her illness was borne patiently and those who remember her bright;, and cheerful nature will extend much. sympathy to her parents, her two sisters, Mrs. Blumsky and Miss Zoo Bell, and her brother, Air. Avery Bell. The interment took place yesterday afternoon at the Taruheru cemetery.

The Duke. of Gloucester will leave London on October 16 for Abyssinia to represent the King at the coronaation of the emperor. He will join the Panpura at Marseilles and travel, in it to Aden. Thence he will go in H.M.S. Effingham to Jibuti, in French Somaliland- A royal train will take him to Addis Ababa, by October 29. After the coronation on November 2, feasting and ceremonies will continue in the capital for eight days, and at the end of that time the duke will leave for British Somaliland to spend several davs hunting big game. He expects* to pass Christmas on the voyage home, and will reach England in the new vear —British Official AVireless.
