MAJESTIC THEATRE

‘TTIASING HA IJN H<) WS.’ ’

MUSICAL COMEDY ATTRACTION

“Clm-sing Rainbows” was accorded an enthusiastic reception at the Majestic Theatre, it is a bright, joyous sort of show', with no lack ot real humor and delightful nonsense. A splendid drilled ballet, charmingly frocked, put over some numbers that gained loud applause and that is no mean feat as an audience is slow to applaud in a talking picture—possibly for fear of missing something— Charles King was Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer’s star in “Chasing Rainbows,’ and ho handled his numbers m such a way that the audience, leaving the threatre, found it difficult to decide wiiat catchy number to whistle first. “Lucky Me—Lovable You,” and “Happy, Days are Hero Again” were probably favorites, with “Love Ain’t Nothin’ But the Blubs” a close run-ner-up. Charles King’s great trouble was extreme susceptibility to to feminine charms and ho fell in Jove disastrously several times before he discovered "that his happiness, lay in the hands of his stage partner, with whom familiarity had almost bred contempt. As,the victim of long, unrequited, love,- Bessie Love had a.difficult, part which could easily have developed .into pathos. Her feet seemed to twinkle as she put across her popular number, “Everybody Tap “Chasing Rainbows” is. a jojn ous "type of film and cannot fail' to be a "success. Marie .Dressier is ii’reVstiblo when she sings “l am Honest, T am Proud; and 1 am Bure,” and in depicting the difficulties of an inebriated actress trying to remove an obstinate crown-top from a bottle she provokes the most unrestrained .’mirth'. Charles King’s singing is a feature, and little Bessie Love plays, her part to perfection. Tito. Rude's great- baritone voice was splendidly suited to Meyerbeer’s. “L’Afiribane, which was sung in costume with a strong chorus, the ’ scene being the deck of'- Vasco do Gama’s ship. Cm* dainty number and one eerie, and wild, were played by J)uci de Karekjarto ,the , papular violin' virtuoso. Charlie Chase talking, pinging comedy “Real McCoy,” and a Metaotpne News, are also oil the programme which vyiU I}o shown again '•'o-uight and at the'miatinee to-morrow
