RECENT THEATRE

“DISRAELI.”

The all-talking picture “Disraeli” will be screened to-day. and to-mor-row night for positively the lost time at the Regent. “Disraeli” is.based on a dramatic moment in the career of England’s great Jewish Prime Minister. He was one of tlie most, remarkable and far-seeing British statesmen of the nineteenth century, and even in ordinary politics he was an extraordinary figure “Disraeli” provides a remarkable combination of stage acting and stage speech. The famous English actor, .George Arliss. in the title role. gives a characterisation of wonderful finish, and skill. He has many admirable lines, and he delivers them in a very admirable manner. His utterances bristle with quiet, humour, and his portrayal of the great statesman is a clever and finished piece of acting. While Arliss is the principal figure in this remarkable production, he is well supported by a fine east. Full all-talkie fenturettes will also be screened, including a Fox News, The Four Aristocrats, entertainers, Olms. Hnc-kett, famous tenor of tlie Chicago Opera Co., and Professor Moore’s Orchestra. “SUNNYSIDE UP.” Two great stars, an all-star supporting cast, a delightful story, plenty of comedy and a half a dozen sensational song hits is the combination presented in “Sunny Side Up”, Fox Movietone musical comedy which opens on Wednesday at 2 p.m. Janet Gaynor and Charles Farrell, making their musical comedy debut, gave an amazing performance. Both have pleasing voices and sing their song numbers in a manner that- brings bursts of spontaneous applause. Aliss Oavnor also blossoms out as a dancer and proves she is as proficient in the terpsiclioroan art as she is in acting. DoSylva, -Brown and Henderson, who authored “Sunny Side Up,”' from dialogue to words and music, have “clicked” with their first audible picture production and proved they are as talented in this medium as they are in concocting successful stage musical comedies. Scummed up, "Sunny Side Up” is superlative entertainment.
