CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

■ At a monthly meeting of the Opotiki Chamber of Commerce held last n.glit, a letter was-received from the District Engineer stating that inu-u the Natives paid rates the washout on the Mataliia Road would not be repaired.—Mr. 6. Shalfoon pointed out that the road was a pubne read, ancl that everyone was being hit if the washout was not repaired. The Natives, he said, are collecting £oo towards the cost of repairs. —- Mr. A. Young proposed that the Chamber write to the AA hakatauo County Council asking that the work be done, and pointed out that the Natives concerned are willing to contribute towards the cost. —The motion was carried.
