PEACE SHIELD TOURNAMENT.

FIRST DAY’S PLAY. • The annual bowling tournament for the Peace Shield was commenced yesterday, the A section being played cm the Kahutia green and the B section on the Poverty Bay Club’s greens. Play' was held up temporarily in the morning owing to rain, but after a short postponement was commenced. Owing to the rain the greens were not in the best of condition, though quite fit for play. Mr. J. S. Allan, a member of the executive, opened the tournament o.* the Kahutia green and welcomed the visiting rinks from Tolaga Bay and Te Karaka, and expressed the hope that ail bowlers would enjoy their first game for 1930. At tlie Poverty Bay green the president, Mr. TV. J. • Mac Gibbon, performed the opening ceremony. Three rounds m each -section were completed yesterday and the competition will be concluded to-day.
