Mr. L. O. Morgan, first assistantmaster at Te Awamutu D.H.S., lias been appointed headmaster at Alutuhora school. Mr. W. P. Miller, who has been relieving Mr. A. 11. Xortliover as station master at Gisborne during the latter’s absence on holiday leave, returns to the general manager's office. Wellington, this morning. Messrs. A. E. Benson, T. C'.- Oatridge. X. J. Redstone and I). Urry. of tho seven Gisborne candidates who sat for the written portion of the electrical wiremeii’s examination Jaß March, were successful. Messrs. G. Peeling reference was made to the untimely death of tile late Mr. H. E. Hill at the meeting of the -Justices' of Peace Association, held yesterday afternoon. Mr. Hill had held tlie position of a Justice of the Peace for many years, and was much respected by all. It was resolved that tlie association’s deepest sympathy should he conveyed by the Registrar to tlie bereaved widow and family.

A pleasant interlude took place at the meeting of the Justices' of the Peace Association yesterday, when tlie chairman. Air. \V. Lisoant Clayton, introduced the newly appointed Magistrate, Mr. P. H. Harper, tu members present. On be.hali of the association, the chairman extended to Air. Harper a cordial welcome tu Gisborne, and asked him to accept the position of patron of tlie association. Jn accepting the office. Air. Harper said lie did so with much pleasure, and thanked all for his cordial welcome. The speaker .-.aid he would do his best to further the interests of the association. and would be only too pleased to give mombed's an address on any subject they desired. At yesterday's meeting of the GGherue Justices' of the peace Association, Air. T. Corson said he was very pleased to see two lady members uppointed Justices and taking then' scats on the association. lie was sure both Airs. Be<fr and Alls. Goffo would render invaluable assistance to tlie association. The chairman (Mr. V ■ Liss.ant flay ton) endorsed the previous speaker’s remarks, and on be.lmlf of the association, extended congratulations and a hearty welcome to Airs. Beer and Airs. Gofi'e. In reply. Airs. Beer said both Mrs. Goffo and herself felt honored at being appointed Justices cf the Peace, and she would wiilinoJv do her best in the administration of justice in Gisborne.
