MINISTER’S APPEAL FOR INDUSTRIAL PEACE.

BLENHEIM, Mav 27. The Hon. AY. A. Veitcb. who returned from Kaikoura this evening, whither he hud accompanied the Prime Minister, was accorded a civic reception in the presence of a representative gathering of citizens. Tn responding, the Minister sakl he liked the portfolio of Labor, because it meant dealing with human nature and its problems were human problems. In comparison ’ with other parts of the world, Now 1 Zealand knew no industrial troubles, and lie appealed to all classes W co-operate in maintaining the conditions of industrial peace.
Mr Vcitcli received a deputation which stilted that 1)5 unemployed Imd registered al Blenheim in the past, few days, and requested the Government to expedite public works, such as the £-15.000 deviation scheme, the main South Highway between .Blenheim and Seddou. and construction of the South main trunk. They desired preference for local unemployed until ilie men now out of work had been absorbed. The Minister undertook to do his,utmost in the matter.
